Personality; ( The self-proclaimed leader of the Avengers, Steve Rogers – or Captain America, as he is also known -- is a symbol of honesty and justice, intolerant of injustice and those who would abuse their power for their own gain. As he had always been small and weak for the majority of his life, Steve knows exactly how the weak can be preyed upon and taken advantage of. For that reason, he’s always had the idea that you should never underestimate the little guy, for those who are weak and defenceless will always rise up to fight the hardest, even if the odds are stacked a million to one. He understands what true strength is, in that respect, and upon gaining his own physical strength to match that in his spirit, Steve has vowed to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

In general, one would say that Steve Rogers is a very dutiful person. As a young boy, he always had a sense of purpose, a sense that there was something much bigger out there waiting for him. Indeed, there would be, but it would not come to him until much later in life. Growing up in the Bronx in the midst of the Great Depression, Steve did what he could to help care for and support his ailing mother, as his father had died when he was very young. He was often beaten and bullied by many of the bigger, stronger boys in the neighborhood, and to this day, Steve’s memory of his childhood home remains a bit of a sore spot.

That isn’t to say he didn’t fight back, however. Despite having been sickly thin and weak for the majority of his childhood and teenage-hood, Steve often forgot about his own physicality and would refuse to back down from a fight. Thought he might have been out-matched and would always end up battered and bloody afterwards, fighting back kept his honour intact and gave strength to those who had none.

His strong sense of duty would later kick in at the start of World War II, as news reels featuring footage of the frontlines began to pour into US theatres. Now a young man, Steve frequented the theatres almost obsessively. The War, in his eyes was unjust and disgusting. He had seen and read about the atrocities that were occurring in Asia and in Europe, and was reportedly angry at the fact that the United States had taken two full years to recognize the fact that the Allies needed help. Nonetheless, he had decided that the right thing for him to do was to join the army.

Despite being constantly denied entrance to the army due to his many health issues, Rogers remained determined. If there was a fight to be had against someone who threatened the well-being of millions of innocent people, then Steve wanted to have a part in it. He would, in fact, willingly sacrifice his life for his country and his countrymen without a second thought. As luck would have it for Steve, this determination would give him the chance to participate in the Super Soldier program, eventually becoming the first and only successful product of the program.

Of course, there is much more to Steve than meets the eye. Behind the quiet, dutiful soldier is a meek, dorky and awkward young man who often struggles to connect and socialize with other people – especially women. (Partly do in fact that he dislikes showing too much of his inner-self. He is an introvert in every sense of the word.) Though normally outwardly confident in many of his abilities and talents, he is notoriously bad at dancing and wooing women, and cannot strike up a conversation with one if his life depended on it.
As such, his relationship with Peggy Carter is an interesting one. She is very much a go-getter and a fighter, a woman who speaks her mind no matter if anyone is listening or not. Steve treated her much differently than the other men, as he was quiet and polite in most of his dealings with her. His intelligence and his sense of duty was what caught her eye in the end and they developed a strong relationship over the course of the months they worked together. Sadly, the relationship was brought to a quick end when Rogers was forced to land a bomb-laden aircraft in the arctic to avoid a collision in New York. He was thus frozen for over 70 years – later to be thawed and woken up in early 2012.

Living in the present day, 2012, has presented brand new challenges for Captain America. Steve still remains his quiet, guarded self and clearly struggles to cope with the knowledge of what he left behind. Not only did he lose the first meaningful relationship with the woman of his dreams, but he also lost a valued friend in the course of losing his previous life. He witnessed the death of his best friend and mentor, Bucky Barnes, and for Steve, it still feels as though it was only yesterday. Due to his loss – as well as an effect of the Serum – Steve has become somewhat of an insomniac. On an almost nightly basis he can be found at the gym for hours on end, unable to sleep due to the nightmares that plague him. Although he denies it, the war has scarred Steve in a way that he will never truly recover from.

Aside from the obvious mental challenges he faces, Steve now lives in a world that has drastically changed from the one he grew up in. The technology of 2012 confounds him greatly, though he is openly very curious about what it is and how it works. Cellphones, computers, TV’s ... all of the things that are of normal happenstance to us are absolutely fascinating to him. Don’t be surprised if he starts asking you a million questions if you hand him your newest iPhone or the latest digital camera.

The culture of 2012, of course, is also drastically different from that of the 1940’s. Steve is very old-fashioned in the way that he continues to use 40’s slang and jargon and struggles to pick up on how the people of today speak and relate to one another. (Though that could also be attested to his lack of the ability to socialize properly. He’s always been quite shy, after all.) He essentially talks like an old man and even acts like one on occasion. That does not mean he doesn’t at least try, however. As seen in the Avengers, the moment someone references something he knows about, he jumps on it. (See Thor making a comment on Flying Monkeys and Steve automatically saying, “I got that! I got that reference.”) Most references, though, are completely lost on him and this fact is often exploited by fellow Avenger, Tony Stark.

In terms of the Avengers, Steve is their un-official leader. Though obviously behind on the times, he does at least have good leadership skills and the others generally do not question his orders. Even Tony Stark, who often enjoys antagonizing Steve while off-duty, follows Steve’s direction without hesitation. Though he and Tony often appear to dislike one another and are polar opposites in a sense that Tony is very much an extrovert and Steve is obviously not, they trust one another and at least attempt to work together with varying results. Tony’s ‘do what I want’ attitude often gets on Steve’s nerves, but he eventually learns to play off that in order to earn Stark’s trust and faith.

The other members of the Avengers were much easier to get along with at the start. Bruce Banner is as much an introvert as Steve and the two do not bump heads unless Banner is liable to Hulk-out. Thor appears trustworthy and relatable in the way that both Thor and Steve are coping and learning to live in entirely new worlds and he is friendly with both Clint and Natasha. Being part of the Avengers has also allowed Steve to feel as though he has a purpose again. Not only that, but it ties him to this new, modern world and gives him a sense of belonging after being torn from his old life. Though he still struggles with his losses, he has begun to heal as he starts to adjust – even though adjusting seems to be more difficult than he expected it to be. )

Network Sample; ([ Okay. Now this is just getting a tad ridiculous. First he's frozen for 70 years and wakes up in a completely different world, has to fight and entire army of aliens, and now he wakes up in some place called Asgard?

Of course, he's heard of Asgard from Thor, but come on!
He only just figured out how to use a cellphone two days go! Try letting him adjust to one new world at a time, would you?

So here you go, Asgard. Now you've got a confused and somewhat lost Cap wandering around. And it looks as though he’s finally figured out how to use the video function on his bracelet.
]

Uh ... Hello?
How does this thing -- oh, there we go!

Um, Hi. Steve Rogers, here. [ Quick salute. He does that out of habit.
Steve pauses for a moment, as though attempting to remember what he was going to say.
]

Can someone tell me how I got here? Or maybe point me in the direction of a God named Thor?
The young woman ... o-or Robot – I’m not exactly sure, really -- gave me a bit of information, but I’m still a little confused, you see ...
It’s a long story, but I know a couple people from Asgard and I’d really like to speak to them. Preferably Thor. [ Loki might be helpful, too, but he doesn’t feel particularly keen on meeting him again. Nevertheless, he offers a little smile and another salute. ]
Any information would be swell!
Now how to turn this thing off –
[ Steve pauses and presses a button on the screen, shutting the video feed off with a click. ]
